Peter Brook, the International Theatre director once wrote

“I can take any empty space and call it a bare stage. A man walks across this empty space whilst someone else is watching him, and this is all I need for an act of theatre to be engaged.”

That’s the kind of theatre I’ve been trying to create for the past forty years. A simple theatre of storytelling using minimal props and sets; and helping actors to create a world for the imaginations of the audience. All my written work has gone to aid that ambition.

Welcome to my home page. For the past forty years I’ve been working in the professional theatre directing plays, researching and writing plays and some times performing in them. On these pages I’ve tried to give you a flavour of the work I have done: from plays about Hop Picking in Kent to the hilarious adventures of Ali Baba; from the thrilling imaginings of Edgar Wallace to the tormented mind of Edgar Allan Poe
